|—||~ frustratingly lamented Every Lesbian. EVER.|
maybe an unpopular opinion, but I just re-watched the ‘Left Hand of the Goddess’ episode of The L Word (otherwise known as the ‘everyone looses their shit’ episode), and I just, I get why Shane had to do what she had to do. It just wasn’t her, she loved Carmen, but the whole marriage thing went against who she was intrinsically as a person. (& yes I know her dad fucked with her head with the whole “you know what I mean” aside in the bar, but I think that’s too Freudian an escape route for someone like Shane; I mean, if it was Jenny that’d make sense but Shane… just… no) In my opinion Shane decided to go for it because when she lost Dana she just wanted to make sure she had a secure grasp on everyone she loved. Then she had a full-on david byrne ‘once in a lifetime’ realization that this was not who she was at that moment in her life & she didn’t want to wake up some morning years from then, married, & full of resentment & shame because she would have probably by then become a card carrying adulterer by cheating on her actual Wife, Carmen. I just get where she was coming, or rather what she was running from. Don’t get me wrong, Shane & Carmen were one of my favorite couples on TLW, they should have just stayed in committed relationship territory. Also, speaking of that episode, Bette Porter is such a BAMF. & God-Des & She’s performance of ‘Lick It’, if you’re a lesbian & you don’t know all the words to ‘Lick It’, shame on you, man. every girl loving lez worth their boots should be able to harmonize with “Get through the pain if your jaw locks/ you gotta be a soldier and don’t stop/ Lick her and finger her at the same time/ feel around the G-spot, seek and you shall find”. That just has to be said.
